Diversity

December 28, 2011

We are currently in the midst of a culture war. On one side we have the Sexual Left – Radical Feminists, Sexual Revolutionaries, followers of Alfred Kinsey and Margaret Sanger, and members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered and Queer coalition (sometimes labeled as sexual minorities). On the other side we have Social Conservatives — those who belong to faith traditions which hold that life begins at conception and sexual activity belongs in marriage and that marriage is defined as the union between one man and one woman. Those who hold this view believe that the evidence supports their contention that society is best served when life is protected and marriage affirmed.

Because these two views are so divergent and because they involve such intimate aspects of a person’s life, it is important that the freedom of the individual seeking psychological counseling or medical care be protected. It is also important that the rights of medical professionals and hospitals to not provide services they feel are immoral or contrary to the best interests of patients be protected.

Currently women are able to choose to abort their unborn children and medical professionals are free to provide that service. However, the right of other medical professionals or hospitals not to provide that service must be protected. Likewise, employers should not be forced to fund health insurance which pays for procedures which the employers believe are immoral. This should include not only religious institutions, but all employers.  This should include but not be limited to: abortion, sterilization, contraception, various reproductive technologies, and so-called “sex change” operations.

Those who strongly disapprove of the agenda of the Sexual Left have a right to have access to medical and mental health professionals and facilities which support their views. A pro-life woman wants an obstetrician who will support her decision to carry her baby to term even in difficult circumstances. She doesn’t want to be harassed into considering abortion or pressured to have tests that’s only purpose to target an unborn child for abortion.

In the same way a person with same-sex attractions has the right to seek counseling which is congruent with his or her personal beliefs and desires.

In order to protect the diversity of opinion within the population it is important that those educational institutions and accrediting associations encourage diversity among their students. Currently certain educational institutions and accrediting associations are so strongly aligned with the agenda of the Sexual Left that they routinely discriminate against Social Conservatives, thus creating a situation where Socially Conservative students must hide their beliefs or worse forced to undergo pro-Sexual Left indoctrination. The result of this kind of unjust discrimination is that Social Conservative clients looking for counseling will increasingly find it difficult to receive help which respects their beliefs and values. This is a clear violation of the principle of respect for diversity, which these same institutions claim to be promoting.

Unfortunately, the ideology of the Sexual Left is so powerful within certain universities and certain professional association that active discrimination against Social Conservatives is considered a virtue. The goal of the Sexual Left is in fact to impose their views on the entire society and to marginalize anyone who openly opposes their agenda.

The first step in reversing this injustice is to create and publicize a list of universities, institutions, and professional associations which have a record of discrimination against Social Conservatives.

Step two; put forward legislation which would prohibit publically funded universities and institutions from discriminating against Social Conservatives.

Step three, currently various professional associations are recognized as accrediting bodies for those seeking to work in various fields. If any of these associations is found to have discriminated against social conservatives, their accrediting function should be removed and a non-biased body set up to assure that accreditation is fairly administered.

Those interesting in seeing evidence how the rights of Social Conservatives are currently being abused can find documentation in the books Unprotected: A campus psychiatrist reveals how political correctness in her profession endangers every student by  Miriam Grossman and Destructive Trends in Mental Health: The Well-Intentioned Path to Harm, by Rogers Wright and Nicholas Cummings. Or they may follow the daily reports of discrimination against Social Conservatives posted on LifeSiteNews.com.

Interesting post. Whilst I agree in general terms that it is easy to visualize this as a culture war, it is a pity we seem to need to take sides, and those sides are probably very fuzzy with people crossing the divide from both sides depending upon the nuances of the discussion.

I like your approach (shown also in other discussions) of articulating commensurate “rights” for the conservatives that show clearly that there is ground to protect (and reclaim) for the conservative position.

Just listened to Jonette B. on EWTN interviewing Dale and two gentlemen discussing homosexuality. Dale said something like, “… while being held in mother’s arms, an infant’s brain develops by looking at its mother’s eyes (mirroring).” Please, will you please send me the source of this fabulous scientific information. I desire to learn more details about this early developmental process of infants. Gratefully, Sister Briana +

I know the thoughts you have. The thoughts you bury deep inside. It’s ok. You’re ok. What they told you when you were young…it was wrong. Please let go of what they told you.

Dear Adam, I am a convert in every sense of the word and developed my convictions over time and with much study and research into the negative effects of the sexual revolution.
