Twenty-five years ago, when I was still working on an Apple 2c with a dot matrix printer, I wrote a long essay attempting to explain to pro-life, pro-family Christians the nature of the battle we were facing. Since all I had was a hard copy, a friend scanned the essay for me. The battle continues. In 1990 I focused on gender. In 1995, I saw that homosexuality would be the new battle ground and recently I have watched the battle switch to the promotion of ‘transgender’ rights. Still, it is good to go back and look at where I began. The following is an introduction to my paper

Recently I was asked to give a seminar that would train women to speak up against the various ideologies which are attacking our society, our faith and the lives of unborn children. No matter what part of the battle we have been engaged in, the arguments against the truth fall into certain predictable patterns and behind these patterns are ideological assumptions which directly challenge the sovereignty of God. In order to defend the truth we must first understand the roots of the opposition to that truth. I hope the following observations will be helpful to all those involved in the same battle.

The Enemy we Face

Defending the Faith has, in this dissent-ridden age, become an increasingly difficult task. Those of us who hold that the teachings of the Church are God’s gift to His people can become exhausted fighting the myriad attacks from within and without. The media, via a constant barrage of biased programming, has brainwashed many into believing that the Church is a reactionary organisation holding back the inevitable tide of progress. Sooner or later, we are told, the Church must surrender on abortion, contraception, divorce, homosexuality, and women priests. Every argument imaginable is thrown up against the Church. Not only are we castigated for everything we believe in, we are even blamed for the things we oppose. For example in the last year articles have been published blaming the Church for teen pregnancy, homosexual teenage suicide and gay bashing. According to the Church’s critics, Church teaching that sex outside of marriage is wrong causes girls to feel guilty and not use contraception. Church teaching make homosexuals feel guilty and kill themselves. The Church teaches that homosexuality is a sin and so the Church is to blame if people go out and beat up homosexuals. Conveniently ignored are the Church’s consistent stands against fornication, suicide and violence.

The world attacks the unity of the Church – the supernatural oneness of the Body of Christ – pitting the hierarchy against the laity, the teachings of the Church against the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the present Church against the past, the AmericanChurch against the Holy Father. The world demands that the Church change.

For many of us it has been one battle after another – legal abortion, pornography, secular humanism in the schools, Planned Parenthood sex education programmes, condom hand-outs, women’s ordination, altar girls, homosexual right. It has been a thirty year war with no end in sight.

It is necessary occasionally to step back from the raging conflict and look at the cosmic picture. God, foreknowing our need, has supplied the cosmic perspective through the medium of supernatural revelation. He has shown us the conflict from His point of view in the apocalyptic visions in the books of Daniel, Zechariah and Revelation. God comforts His people during times of terrible persecution. Apocalyptic revelation allows the people to see the big picture and to understand that no matter how dark it may seem or how defeated they may feel, the forces of evil will not prevail.

Apocalyptic revelation is the picture of what was, what is and what is to come. The visionary speaks to the people of his own time encouraging them to be brave in the face of apparent defeat. Yet the visions application is not limited to what has already happened: the visions will not be fulfilled completely until the end of time. Moreover, the visions encourage the faithful in every age who find themselves similarly engaged in the battle between good and evil. In the visions we see forces unmasked and we see that God will in the end be victorious. For us the clouds part and by means of supernatural revelation we watch as a greater war takes place above out parochial skirmishes, as angelic hosts and powerful dark forces struggle for the control of nations.

Certain parts of these visions appear to be speaking of particular moments in history while such identifications are always tentative and incomplete; it is a proper use of scripture to seek consolation and insight by applying parts of the apocalyptic visions to one’s own period. The Beast mentioned in 13th chapter of Revelation and Daniel 7:7-13 is a particularly apt image for the forces of evil confronting the Church at this moment in history – the forces with which we are now engaged in mortal combat, forces allied against the Church, morality and the lives of the unborn. Here is the passage from Revelation which mentions the Beast:

And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on the horns and on each head a blasphemous name. The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and throne and great authority. One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast. Men worshipped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast and they also worshipped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?”

And the beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months. He opened his mouth to blaspheme God and to slander His name and His dwelling place and those who live in heaven. He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And the inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast – all whose names have not been written in book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.

He who has ears let him hear. [Rev. 13]

Whether we are engaged in the battle against legal abortion or defending the teachings on chastity and marriage or combating the corruption of education, we confront similar yet contradictory arguments. Our attackers seem oblivious to the inconsistencies within their own positions. They cry for freedom and then demand repression of opinions they don’t agree with. They defend their own materialism even as they condemn us for being materialistic. They deride the Church’s power and then demand power for themselves. The image of a multi-headed monster is entirely appropriate for the conflicting ideologies allied in a common battle against the Truth. The seven ideologies – Modernism, Secular Humanism, Populationism, Materialism, Sexual Liberation, Marxism and Feminism – currently attacking truth can be visualised as seven heads of the Beast. Heads are an appropriate image, since ideologies are patterns of thinking, mindsets, head games. The union of the heads in a single beast illustrates how seemingly contradictory ideologies work together as a single force. The ideologies are united in pursuing the dame goal: a full-bore attack on God, His Church and His people.

The ideologies use the media to broadcast their message to the world. In the Bible horns represent a source of power and communication:  the modern media are certainly both. The media are not inherently evil in themselves, they could be used for great good but they have been co-opted by the forces of darkness. The forces promoting abortion and attacking the truth clearly have control of the media and are able to communicate their message through the ten forms of modern communication: books, magazines, newspapers, radio, film, stage, television, display (billboards, posters, bumper stickers, tee shirts) and classes and seminars. According to the vision in Revelation the crowns of the Beast are on the horns not on the heads, pointing to the fact that the power of this Beast, unlike the previous beast mentioned whose crowns are on its heads, does not reside in his control of governments but in his control of the means of communication.

Each of the seven ideologies directly challenges God, each promotes a particular sin and each can be combated with a particular virtue.

Basic Idea

God does not speak

Secular Humanism

God will not judge

God cannot save

Save yourself

Sexual Liberation

Be you own judge

Man can be his own Revelation

Non serviam

I will not serve

Each of this ideologies claims to offer man freedom and a better life. Modernism offers knowledge: Secular Humanism peace: Populationism security: Materialism satisfaction: Sexual Liberation intimacy: Marxism justice and Feminism equality. The promises are lies: the Great Deceiver is unable to give good gifts to those who follow him. The knowledge promised by Modernism is really ignorance and those who follow modernism end up not knowing what is obvious to the simplest child or most uneducated savage. Secular humanism’s promise of peace through tolerance ends in conflict, chaos and anxiety. Populationism promises security and delivers death. Materialism succeeds only in creating greater needs. Sexual Liberation ends in loneliness. Marxism delivers tyranny and Feminism traps women in a permanent second class status.

On the seven heads of the Beast are written the seven blasphemous names and from the mouths of each head come lies, slanders, insults and blasphemies against God himself and against the Church. When we analyse the name of each ideology, we realize that each name is, in its own way, an insult to God. Modernism insults God by saying His revelation is out-of-date we need to be modern. Secular Humanism says man can be human and live totally in and for this world – be secular – apart from God. Populationism says people, God’s special creation are the problem. Materialism says all we need are things – ignoring our need for God, disdaining the treasure we lay up in heaven. The Sexual Liberation insists on liberation from God’s laws on sexual ethics. Marxism says that Karl Marx is the source of revelation not God. Feminism makes women a cause, denying the justice and goodness of God’s creation of two sexes and attacking the Fatherhood of God.

Although each of the ideologies arose as a response to real human problems and each appeals to a natural desire in man for the good, careful analysis of the ideologies reveals that they are a craftily constructed fabric of lies, slanders, and blasphemies masquerading as progressive, enlightened opinion.

Have you seen the newest CDC report? It is sobering.

Another study shows a 55% increase of HIV among MSM in Israel since 2005.

I wasn’t sure if the 2013 report was published after your article was written. I’ve read and posted links to your report frequently.

Thanks for your hard work in gathering and organizing the facts…and for your documented and logical arguments in all your articles.

Hello Dale, I am trying to find good research to back up your claim that lesbians are, in your words, “more likely to have been victims of childhood sexual abuse.” Can you either write a column on the subject, or email me with some references? I can’t find any such research for or against your claim on the internet. Thanks!

“Sexual abuse seems to be both more prevalent among girls already at risk for SSA and can be a contributing factor in its development. A significant percentage of women with SSA report a history of childhood sexual abuse and/or rape. A study of 1,925 lesbians found that “Thirty-seven percent had been physically abused as a child or adult, 32% percent had been raped or sexually attacked, 19% had been involved in incestuous relationships while growing up.” (Judith Bradford, Caitlin Ryan, Ester Rothblum, “National Lesbian Health Care Survey: Implications for Mental Health Care” Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 62(1994), 2, p. 228.) Other studies have also found that women with SSA are far more likely to have been victims of violence than other women. A pattern of case histories points to the mother’s failure to protect her daughter from sexual abuse or incest — or to call her daughter a liar when informed of it — as a crucial factor in the development of SSA.” (Excerpt from One Man, One Woman)

In December, the APA groups decided to take Gender Identity Disorder off the DSM-5 list of disorders.

Sexual agenda activists invented the concepts of sexual rights and sexual orientation to carry on decades of propaganda warfare that have led step by step to this week’s Supreme Court hearing on same-sex marriage.

To approve same-sex marriage opens the door to polygamy, intra-familial (incest), inter-species (bestiality) and intra-generational (pedophilia/ephebophilia) marriage on the same basis – rights, justice, etc. Lobbyists for each of these groups is hard at work propagandizing legislatures and the APA groups on behalf of these ‘orientations.’

You and many others have worked so hard to present facts and evidence, but the fathers of law, government and science do not seem to hear. Are they blind and deaf to truth?

What are the political activists next planned steps after the DSM-5 has removed identity confusion (GID) from its list of disorders?

Here’s a hint: In the UK, the General Medical Council attempted to force all physicians to perform gender reassignment treatment and surgery. They have now backed down, for now, due to public outcry. But after a few years of pretend victims whining about injustice, they will attempt no doubt try it again.

    Hello Dale,
I listened with great interest to the Supreme Court hearings on prop 8 and Doma.
I am not a lawyer so some of it was difficult to understand. I was amazed at how strict the time constraints were for each side to present their case. So I am interested in reading some amicus briefs to the court, but when I google this….all I see is sexual left opinion.
Is anybody sending the Supreme court agrument for traditional marriage? Where can I find the briefs? Michael

The cases are Hollingsworth v Perry and US v Windsor.
The one from ACOP is excellent.

@ Georgia. The DSM5 is causing a whole pile of problems, to the point that the APA has taken the draft down. It will only be an official classification system in the US: the rest of the world uses the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) which is also being revised but will come out about a year later.

The DSM is trying to make radical changes, probably beyond what data we have. The ICD is much more conservative. Given that psychiatry has enough problems at the moment — as a practising psychiatrist we can just keep up with the seriously mentally ill (and we have huge difficulties recruiting the next generation) we will probably ignore what the USA is doing and support the ICD. Many of us tried to lobby the Americans, to no avail: they can disappear down their own rabbit hole. The rest of the world does not need to follow them.

On GID and funding, in most of the world surgery is not funded: it is seen, like plastic surgery, to be a luxuty the state (as most of the world has socialized medicine) cannot afford.

As an EX-gay, I look back at my old beliefs as a “gay theologian” and former member of “Dignity”. Gay Theology includes a LOT of those beasts. ALL homosexuals are gripped with way too much anger. We have little hope in our future, so we lived for the here-and-now and we committed the sin of “presumption” because God will always love us in all our sins. Our lusts were also mixed with a lot of envy. And don’t make me explain why I marched in several parades we called “PRIDE”.
